five english words to flatter a frenchie

Today we cover a few french words that are basically English anyway.

Thankfully there are a lot of these. At the end of this post I’ll link to 300 them.

But for now we are only going to cover FIVE easy ones + ONE SEXY BONUS WORD.

So, you meet someone and they are charming, interesting, intelligent, even seductive.  Goldmine!

How do you pay them these compliments?

Just add your fancy Aunt.

Pretty much any word that ends in ant in French is the same word in English. Just take the word and pronounce it with “ant” (in a way that sounds like a posh person saying “aunt”).

So, charming becomes charmant(e)* -  charm-aunt

Interesting is intéressant(e)  pronounced interest-aunt

We could call an intelligent gent or lady intellig-aunt(e)

And a seductive/attractive one séduisant(e)

Now to tell someone they have these qualities you just say:

T’es (you are) INSERT ENGLISH WORD +aunt

T’es charmante! T’es intéressante! T’es intelligente et séduisante!

If that is too scary. I have a hack for you- just straight up use these English words.  Say “comment dire (how do you say) you are seductive?”.

Then they will respond “te’s seduicent(e)” to which you can say something like… “merci” or “oh la la”.  This should get you a laugh and you can all bond over how much you already have in common.

SEXY BONUS

Here is one you don’t even have to change. The french word for sexy = sexy. Could I make this any easier!?!

So go, try this at home. Tell someone “T’es sexy” tonight!

Bisous 💋

P.S. Basically anything that ends in ‘ion’ ‘al’ ‘ict’ ‘ant’ is French word. Here is a cute article with 300 of them.

*With genders you can pronounce the t strongly if you want for a woman, but you don’t have to.  More on why and how in tomorrows blog post….
